Background Checks
An Act Relative to Background Checks (Chapter 459 of the Acts of 2012, as amended by
Chapter 77 of the Acts of 2013) 

All school employees hired after 7/1/2013 including educators, maintenance staff, cafeteria workers, bus drivers, and employees of contractors who work in the schools and who may have direct and unmonitored contact with children are currently required to complete the new national background check.

Unlike state CORI checks that have no associated fee, individuals will pay a fee to comply with this requirement:
  • $35 for non-licensed employees (paraprofessionals, custodians, clerical staff, cafeteria employees) 
  • $55 for license-holders (teachers and administrators.) 
It is a condition of employment that all newly hired employees must be fingerprinted prior to the start of their assignment.

You will need to pay with a credit card when registering for your appointment. Please bring the confirmation page and note the identification you will need to bring with you to the fingerprinting center.

Requests for Letters of Suitability/Suitability Determination should be sent to  

Include your name, DOB, and timeframe for your employment as well as an email address or mailing address as to where the letter should be sent.  Letters are sent within seven (7) days of receipt of request.
