Background Checks

An Act Relative to Background Checks (Chapter 459 of the Acts of 2012, as amended by Chapter 77 of the Acts of 2013) Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

All school employees hired after 7/1/2013 including educators, maintenance staff, cafeteria workers, bus drivers, and employees of contractors who work in the schools and may have direct and unmonitored contact with children are currently required to complete the new national background check.


Unlike state CORI checks that have no associated fee, individuals will pay a fee to comply with this requirement that ranges from:

$35 for non-licensed employees (paraprofessionals, custodians, clerical staff, cafeteria employees)  
$55 for license-holders (teachers and administrators)

It is a condition of employment that all newly hired employees be fingerprinted prior to the start of their assignment.

You will need to pay with a credit card when registering for your appointment.  Please bring the confirmation page and note the identification you will need to bring with you to the fingerprinting center.
