COVID-19 Information & Planning

North Andover has put measures in place to respond to the health and safety needs of our students and staff. It is not a single strategy that will help keep our learning community safe, but a combination of strategies together to reduce the risk of transmission.

Health and Safety Practices

  • Masks/Face coverings

    • Students and staff will be required to wear face coverings.  Exceptions will be made for documented medical/behavioral reasons

    • Mask breaks will occur throughout the day when students can be greater than six feet apart, ideally when students are outdoors.

  • Hand Hygiene

    • Students and staff will be required to wash or sanitize their hands upon arrival to the school, before eating, before putting on and taking off masks, and prior to dismissal.

    • Each school will place hand washing and sanitizing visuals throughout the schools to remind students and staff of proper handwashing and hand sanitizing procedures.

  • Physical Distancing

    • Our goal is to maintain a physical distance of six feet between individuals when possible.

    • Desks will be arranged at least six feet apart in classrooms and face the same direction.

  • Screening Staff and Students

    • The district will ensure that all families and staff are familiar with the state provided checklist of symptoms

    • Families will screen students prior to sending them to school

    • Staff will self-screen before reporting to work

    • A nurse will be available by phone before the start of school for any questions

  • COVID-19 related isolation space

    • In order to minimize transmission we have identified an isolated space in every school separate from the nurse’s office for students displaying COVID-19 symptoms until they can be picked up by a family member

As a supplement to DESE’s Initial Fall School Reopening Guidance, we have also been provided with protocols for responding to specific COVID-19 scenarios this fall, including in school, on the bus, or in community settings.  Click here to read the full guidance for responding to COVID-19 in our schools.
