Student Leadership

Peer Leadership Course - NAHS

This course is designed for students who are interested in becoming peer leaders at NAHS.  It will provide students with skills in public speaking, group facilitation, problem solving, and leadership.  Students will also learn conflict resolution skills.  Peer leaders serve as a bridge between the teacher and the students.  Both long and short-term projects/activities will engage students in dealing with numerous health risk factors.

Works to improve the school culture through:

  • Developing social responsibility and self-esteem in students.

  • Community service opportunities and modeling pro-social behavior.

  • Opportunities for student-led programs (to educate peers)

  • Provide students with opportunities to develop and practice leadership and social action skills in order to become catalysts for change.

The High School Guidance Department spent several hours over the summer and this fall preparing for the Peer Leadership classes they will teach later this year.  There are two sections of the class slated to run, one in trimester two and one in trimester three. Counselors are working with trainers from Project Adventure to develop lessons rooted in adventure learning. This time around our whole department will be involved in the instruction, something that all of our students will benefit from.
