5th Grade Hobby Show Friday, April 17

Hobbies are an important part of students' lives, and the Franklin School 5th graders have an exciting opportunity to show off their hobbies. Each 5th grader has been carefully crafting a display or presentation highlighting his or her favorite hobby. Members of the Rotary Club judge the hobby displays each year, but the morning is more about illustrating the varied interests of the students. Each grade level has a set time to view the displays and ask 5th graders about their pursuits. For more information contact Mrs. Murgo at 978-794-1990.

FROM THE HEALTH OFFICE

Congratulations go to 3C for winning the monthly prize for 5210 for February. The class was treated to a fun session with Mr. Landrum from ATA Martial Arts as a reward for their great efforts in trying to reach the goal of eating five fruits and vegetables daily. The March winner for limiting screen time will be announced next – stay tuned!

The month of April is one where the goal will be to participate in at least one hour of physical activity daily. Please use this opportunity to explore different ways that your children can be active – not just by participating in a team sport but also to try new things like hiking, flying a kite, jumping rope, throwing a Frisbee, playing with a hula hoop – the possibilities are endless! Remember to avoid sweetened drinks each day as well.

Just a friendly reminder…….students should not be carrying around any medications whatsoever – including over the counter medications, special hand creams and even cough drops! A child with a cough needs to be assessed in the health office if they have persistent symptoms, and will be provided with a cough drop or throat lozenge if the nurse feels it is appropriate. Other over the counter medications require a physician’s order and signed parent consent. Thank you for your cooperation with this very important medication policy. Please feel free to contact the health office with any questions or concerns.

LIBRARY VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: I am looking for some more library volunteers.  It’s not a big commitment!  If you could just give 1-2 hours a week, you could help a great deal! I currently have openings on Monday mornings for Kindergarten, Wednesday mornings for 2nd grade, and Thursday morning for 3rd grade. Please contact me via agouveia1@comcast.net or 978-687-9547 if you are interested or need more information.

FOLLOW UP ON PAST EVENTS……..

Spring Social at Andover Country Club:  Dining, dancing and great spirits were in abundance as our Franklin Community gathered for the 3rd Annual Mardi Gras in March.  The enthusiasm and generosity that flowed throughout the evening was overwhelming.  Many thanks to all the parents, staff and merchants who made this evening such a success – we could not have done it without you!  Numbers are presently being crunched as to the evening’s net and will be forthcoming once all expenses have been submitted.  We urge you to become involved in the PTO wish list which provides a forum for input from parents as to how the income generated this year from events like the Spring Social, should be allocated.
