2010 Spring Fling: Don't forget... The Kittredge Spring Fling is this Friday, March 19th at the Knights of Columbus, from 7-11 PM. It is time to come out from the winter hibernation and enjoy a spring night out with old and new friends. It is sure to be a great adult evening - with wonderful food, entertainment and items for auction. All proceeds, including tickets sales, go directly to the Kittredge School in an effort to supplement the new modular classrooms scheduled to be open for September 2010. Tickets can be purchased this week through the PTO mailbox or at the door the evening of the event. If you need tickets- give me a quick holler and I can hook you up!!! Thanks for your continued support and I hope to see you there!
Speaker Series Event: On Tuesday, March 23 at 7pm the North Andover Parent Teacher Organization Speaker Series is proud to present "WORRIED ABOUT YOUR WORRIER? CREATING CALMER KIDS IN A STRESSED-OUT WORLD". Speaker Lynn Lyons, LICSW, will discuss childhood anxiety and how parents can help their children manage fears and prevent anxiety. Spring Learning Fair - Ms. Kriz needs a few volunteers to help mat the children's artwork for display at the spring learning fair. Volunteers can spend as much time as they would like helping to decorate the halls of
Kittredge for this event. Contact Ms. Kriz for more information.
PTO needs volunteers - as the snow melts and we head into spring, we are already thinking about the 2010/2011 school year. Many folks on our executive board have fulfilled their 2 year commitment. We need new volunteers to continue to actively support our school. News from the Health Office:
5210 is starting again this month! The purpose of the program is to bring awareness to the daily guidelines for nutrition and physical activity. We are condensing the program into two months this year.
Our goal for the month of March is to eat 5 servings of fruits and vegetables and to drink more water and milk and less juice for 14 days of the month. Goal trackers were sent home last week for parents to initial to confirm your child’s participation. At the end of the month a token will be give to students reaching their goal.
Please encourage your child/children to participate in the program. Please contact Mary Hadjian, RN or Kyle Wood, PE teacher if you have any questions about the program,
Kittredge School Information:
Kittredge Poetry: Students in 3rd, 4th and 5th grade are invited to submit a poem (no pencil, please) to their teachers by March 18 to be included in the Kittredge Students' Poetry display. It will be on display @ the North Andover Town Hall, 120 Main St., from 3/23 - 5/3, Monday through Friday, 8:30 am - 4:30 pm. Students should keep a copy if they wish to read this poem at the 4/13 Kittredge Students' Poetry Reading.
Kittredge Students' Poetry Reading: Celebrate National Poetry Month. Everyone is invited! The reading will be held @ Kittredge School on Tuesday, April 13, 2010, @ 6:30 pm. Gayle C. Heney, Poet Laureate of North Andover, will briefly speak to the students' poetry talents followed by readings from interested 3rd - 5th graders.
Spring Father Daughter Dance – Save the date!!!! Saturday, May 1st from 6:30 – 8:30. A Father/Daughter dance for all North Andover Kindergartners and First Graders will be held at the Middle School. Tickets will be on sale on April 3rd or 10th (more details to follow) .
Fuddrucker’s Night: Join us for our Annual Kittredge Night at Fuddruckers on Tuesday, April 6th from 5pm to 8 pm. 20% of your purchase goes directly to the Kittredge Elementary School. A voucher will be sent home view backpacks shortly -- please bring this with you the night of the event!

Destination ImagiNation – Please come to cheer on Kittredge students at their Destination ImagiNation regional tournament performance on Sunday March 21st! The tournament is at the Triton Regional High School , 112 Elm Street in Byfield , MA . The students have been working very hard throughout the year to present their solution in a public setting. The full North Andover performance schedule will be available at www.nadikids.org. 11:00 a.m. (Back of Auditorium) – Athena’s Army (AA). Armed with nothing except creativity and propensity for fun, Athena’s Army will rock your world and get you out on the street in support of the preservation (or perhaps the extinction) of a Threatened Thing.

North Andover Boosters Spring Youth Track: It's time to think spring, spring forward and get into motion! North Andover Boosters will host meets with several towns from the surrounding area at NAHS. Students ages 10-14 hone their skills twice weekly focusing on various track and field events. North Andover Varsity Track coaches work with participants to improve their speed and agility skills through various exercises and drills. Scheduled Travel Meets are held weekly after school at various participating local high schools. Last season the program boasted over 170 participants and five scheduled meets. Beneficial to all individuals who participate, this program provides the fundamentals of speed which are necessary for individual success in all sports! North Andover Youth & Recreation Services: Attention ALL 4th & 5th Graders! The North Andover Youth Center welcomes ONLY 4th & 5th graders on Saturday afternoons from 1:00 - 4:00 pm. There is a $3 drop-in fee, no pre-registration or membership required. This 3-hour block is their opportunity to come to the Center, see their friends from different schools, climb the rock wall, and take part in various planned activities! Surf's Up for the Annual Mother-Son Dance:Pizza and a Dance! It's the perfect Date Night for Mom and her Special Guy! Plan on a fun night for you and your son. Buy your ticket for this year's Annual Mother-Son Dance where you can even buy a slice of pizza or two as you dance the night away! The Mother-Son Dance will be held on Friday, March 26th for Kindergarten – 2nd gr. from 6:30 to 8:30pm and Saturday, March 27th for 3rd - 5th gr. from 7 to 9pm at the North Andover High School Cafeteria. This event, hosted by the Atkinson Elementary PTO, is a great way to spend time with your son and start a tradition. The theme is "Surf's Up," so if you have a Hawaiian shirt and sandals you're ready for dancing, raffles, door prizes, pizza and baked goods. There is even a professional photographer on hand to take pictures of your special date! Tickets are $25.00 per couple or family group/per night. SAVE the DATE: All 5th grade students are urged to mark their calendars to attend the first town wide 5th Grade Dance, Friday May 14th from 7- 9 PM in the Sargent School gymnasium. Tickets will be $10 in advance, $12.00 at the door.
Suitcases4kids.org: …is an organization that collects “gently used” suitcases, luggage and backpacks to be used by children moving into or out of state care, any type of shelter or homeless environment and provide them with a suitcase for their personal belongings. The 5th and 6th grade church group has a goal to collect 500 suitcases. This also is an ongoing drive continuing from now until Easter Sunday, April 4. You can drop off your new or slightly used suitcases, duffel bags, and backpacks at Christ Church, 25 Central Street, Andover, MA. For more information call: (978) 475-0529

2010 Spring Fling: WE WANT YOU…to Jam with the Kittredge Guitar Club Band! Here is your chance to bring out your inner Rock Star! The Kittredge Spring Fling Committee is looking for a few talented parents that would like to perform live during our Spring Fling “Knight for the Manor” Event,
Friday, March 19, 2010 from 7-11 pm Knights of Columbus Camelot Hall with some of our talented Kittredge Elem Guitar Club, Band and Chorus members for a short 30 minute set at the beginning of the evening. The only thing you need is some musical ability and an instrument to play. We will try to schedule one or two jam practices with the students at a convenient time prior to the event. Zoo New England's Life Cycle Program - On Feb. 25th, 2nd graders will learn about the life cycle of insects and amphibians through Zoo New England's outreach program. Zoo New England manages Franklin Zoo in Boston and Stone Zoo in Stoneham. For more information and resources, go to www.zoonewengland.org. Techsploration Workshop - What is friction? How do rockets work? Can you really float on air? On Mar 1 the fifth grade students will use rockets, jet cars, a hovercraft and a radio controlled blimp to learn about the basic principles and history of transportation.
Both programs are sponsored by the North Andover Schools Enrichment Council and supported in part by a grant from the North Andover Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency. 5th Grade Community Service Project: The 5th grade class at Kittredge, as part of a year of helping others, is collecting toiletry items for the People's Pantry in Lawrence, Massachusetts. The 5th graders are asking for donations from each class as follows:

The items will be collected from Monday, February 22 through and including Wednesday, March 3. There will be boxes located in the school lobby for collection. The items will be bagged in groups and delivered to the People's Pantry in mid-March. The items should be family size and can be store brands or a national brand such as Suave. Please consider donating an item listed above. In this tough economic time charitable organizations have been hard hit with less donations and more demand. The 5th graders are hoping to fill 150 bags, each containing a shampoo, conditioner and body lotion. Your donation will be greatly appreciated by the 5th grade class and the People's Pantry!!!

Evaluations for all 10, 11 and 12 year olds will be held on Saturday February 27th. Evaluations for 8 & 9 year olds who did not participate in the fall will be held on Sunday February 28th. The make up date for all 10, 11 and 12 year olds will be Saturday March 6th.
