Volunteer Opportunities

PTO Classroom Contact
This role is for one parent per classroom to help disseminate information between the PTO and families of Kittredge. Most communication is done through email. This role is not time consuming but essential for supporting the PTO and its initiatives at school.
Time commitment: Approximately 1 hour per week when needed from home.
Math Facts
Math Facts is a volunteer-run program that supports the math curriculum. Once a week parents copy and distribute five-page packets of grade appropriate math facts for the children to complete. The parents collect and correct the packages and record the score of the children (this process is done anonymously through a numbering system) and then return them to the teachers. Each class needs a lead and three assistants. In the past, classroom volunteers have worked together to lessen the responsibility between volunteers.
Time commitment: Approximately 2 hours per week, divided among team; copying at school, correcting at home.
Sunshine Math
This is an elective extracurricular weekly math program done at home by the children with support of their parents.  There is a coordinator and grade representatives (either one per class or one per grade, depending on how many volunteers are available.) This activity involves emailing a weekly sheet to the parents of the children who are involved and then recording their weekly participation. At the end of the year, each participating student gets a certificate of completion.
Time commitment: Approximately 1 hour per week at home
Library Liaison Support
The Kittredge library is now open! Students will have the chance to browse the library and borrow books each week on either Wednesday or Friday. Parent volunteers are needed for each class to help students check out books and to re-shelve books that have been returned. The program is coordinated by the Library Liaison. Each class needs 2-4 volunteers to ensure one person is available each week on library day.
Time commitment: Approximately 1 hour every 2-4 weeks at the school
Sounds Fun Reading
Under the direction of the school’s reading specialists, volunteers work with students to enhance their reading skills.
Time commitment: Approximately 1-2 hours per week at the school
Class Photographer
One volunteer per classroom is needed to take pictures during classroom celebrations and other special events.
Time commitment: Varies – as little or as much as you want
Recycling Team
Help Kittredge GO GREEN! Volunteers needed to work with the town’s school coordinator to increase awareness and support recycling initiatives at Kittredge.
Time commitment: Varies
Retail Incentive Representative
The PTO is taking advantage of many opportunities to raise money through programs that don’t cost our families anything extra. Some examples are Target credit cards, Boxtops for Education, and the Scrip program. This representative is responsible for communicating "free money" opportunities to Kittredge Families, providing follow up, accounting, and reporting.
Time commitment: Approximately 1 hour per month
Parents on the Playground
This program supports the noon attendants in providing alternative activities for the students during the winter months. In inclement weather, the students are inside and the volunteers in this program enable the children to go to their classrooms to play games, do worksheets, or perform other activities provided by the teachers or school. The time commitment is whatever you want it to be from once a season to once a week. Each participant will be given training.
Time commitment: Varies – as little or as much as you want
Enrichment Council
The North Andover Schools' Enrichment Council is a non-profit, volunteer-run organization that coordinates art, music and science performances in the schools. The Council meets once a month and is comprised of representatives from each of the five elementary schools and the middle school.  Volunteer opportunities include:  previewing artists, booking shows, hosting school performances, coordinating publicity, assisting with fundraising and/or attending monthly meetings.  The Council is looking for a volunteer per grade. New members are always welcome.  For more information, please contact Carolyn Zimmer at 978-683-3503 or zimmers.east@comcast.net.
Time commitment: Varies -minimum commitment of hosting one show a year or taking on a leadership position on the council
Family Fun Day
This community event is an opportunity for Kittredge Families to get to know one another and for the kids to take part in a number of fun activities.   Volunteers are needed to set up, clean up, and under the direction of the coordinators to run some of the activities.
Time commitment: A few hours on Sunday, September 18th.
Donut Days
This community event is an opportunity for families to have breakfast together in the Kittredge cafeteria. Volunteers assist with the set up, serving, and clean up of the breakfast.
Time commitment: Two hours (7-9am) on October 20th and 21st
Scholastic Book Fair
Volunteers help to set up and clean up the books and also assist the students in choosing and purchasing books. There is an opportunity to be a volunteer during your child’s class visit to the book fair.
Time commitment: One to four hours during school on the days of the event.
Learning Fair
Coordinate volunteers to help Mrs. Vanderbeek hang the students' artwork around the school in preparation for the Learning Fair in June.
Time commitment: two to four hours in the week leading up to the Learning Fair.
Knight Lights
This fundraiser, which was run by the Enrichment Council, is now a Kittredge event. Volunteers are needed to work with the town to organize this event, coordinate the sale of luminary bags, solicit donations for prizes and help out on the evening of the event.
                   Time commitment: Varies.
Kittredge Spring Fling
Volunteers needed to be on a committee for the PTO’s largest fundraiser. There are multiple roles available from soliciting donations for live and silent auctions, selling tickets, organizing gift baskets, coordinating catering, etc.
Time commitment: Varies.

We realize how busy everyone’s lives are, and know our families shoulder a lot of responsibilities. We appreciate any and all efforts made by Kittredge families to give our kids the best experiences possible. Please feel free to do what works for your family, knowing that every bit of support collectively - makes Kittredge the best school it can be!
