This past weekend ten members of the North Andover DECA Club participated in an exciting competition at the Copley Marriott in Boston. DECA is an organization of business, marketing, and entrepreneurship students hoping to prepare for their futures. The club is focused on helping students to develop skills for successful business careers and become more actively involved in community service. The club participates in numerous DECA conferences throughout the year in which they compete against other school districts.
At the Massachusetts State Career Development Conference last weekend, two members qualified for the International Career Fair in Louisville Kentucky. Each member took two written exams and completed two role-plays in front of a judge in their category. Senior Andrew Bernardin placed fourth overall in Principles of Finance. Andrew now has the chance to compete in Louisville Kentucky during the International Conference. Junior Demetri Lemonias was also will also have the opportunity to go to Kentucky, scoring third place overall in Principles of Business Management. The rest of the team did outstanding as well, and the ten students enjoyed a fun filled weekend. The other members that participated in the conference were Tyler Ruggeri, Abigail Desmond, Emily Sciarra, Elizabeth Sciarra, Michelle Graff, Sara Hickey, Colin Foley and Meg Fouhy. |

NAHS WARNING STATUS REMOVED BY NEASC
February 1, 2010
On Friday, January 29, 2010 North Andover High School Principal Carla Scuzzarella informed NAHS staff, Superintendent Hottel, and School Committee Chair Stan Limpert that she has received word that the New England Association of Schools and Colleges Commission on Public Secondary Schools has voted to remove the warning status on North Andover’s accreditation. The recent vote came after the Commission on Public Secondary Schools reviewed NAHS’ Two Year Progress Report submitted by Scuzzarella in November 2009.
In the email to staff Scuzzarella stated “I have received word unofficially - a letter will arrive in February sometime - that the warning designation has been lifted in all 3 areas by the NEASC as a result of our Two Year Progress Report. The work we have done over the past two years to make meaningful changes in our school that benefit our students on so many levels, as well as the support from the School Committee and community, has NAHS on the edge of making that final jump to being a truly great high school. As I have often said, with or without the NEASC, we would still be moving in the direction we are going because it is what is right for our students. Thank you for your tireless dedication and commitment to making NAHS the wonderful place it is!” |

Stevens donated $5,000 and General Eben Sutton donated the clock tower for the new school. In 1954, with the opening of a new building, Johnson High School became North Andover High School. Our current state-of-the-art facility opened in February 2004.
