OUTSIDE SCHOLARSHIPS FOR SENIORS

The following scholarships are offered by local and national organizations. More detailed information on these scholarships is available on the websites listed below and also in the Guidance Office. Please note that deadlines and specific requirements for each of the scholarships differ greatly. It is the responsibility of the student to make certain that their applications and supporting documents are complete.

The Stephen Phillips Memorial Scholarship Fund: The fund offers renewable, 4-year scholarships to students from New England with financial need. Successful candidates are those who display academic achievement, service to others, good character, leadership qualities, and a willingness to contribute to college, personal and/or family expenses. Applications will be posted on the Stephen Phillips website www.phillips-scholarships.org in early January 2015. Information also available in Guidance. Athnet Sports Recruiting Scholarship: $1,000 scholarship for future college students who played sports at the high school level. This year's high school seniors are eligible to apply if they will be attending college next year. Edwin A. Buthmann Memorial Scholarship: To a graduating senior who will pursue careers in professional scouting and/or a profession related to social or community services with an emphasis on counseling or educating youth. The award will reimburse the cost of textbooks and related educational materials. Transcript, recommendations and essay required. Applications available in Guidance. Deadline: April 15, 2015
Robert L. Himber Memorial Scholarship: To assist graduating seniors who are studying foreign languages with teh intention of entering the field of education and or international business. Transcript, recommendations and essay required. The award will reimburse the cost of textbooks and related educational materials. Applications available in Guidance. Deadline: April 15, 2015
National Aviation Academy - Charles E. Taylor Memorial Scholarship: to recognize and encourage students to pursue career skills for the Aviation Maintenance Global Marketplace. The scholarship is dedicated to promoting the future of aviation, more specifically, highly trained A&P Mechanics. Applications in Guidance. Deadline: April 24, 2015.
Lawrence General Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association Scholarship: several scholarships available for prospective graduating seniors in the Greater Lawrence community who are applying to entry level program in Nursing (BSN). Applications available in Guidance. Deadline: April 15, 2015
Student-View Scholarship Program: for seniors who plan to attend a four-year college, community/junior college or career school. Go to: www.student-view.com and complete a 15 - 20 minute application survey about colleges in our area. Deadline: April 22, 2015.
Salem Animal Rescue League Hayes Family Scholarship: $500 scholarship will be awarded to a high school student who is pursing an education in the animal sciences, pre-veterinary programs, veterinary technology or a related field in college. Applications are available in Guidance. Deadline: April 10, 2015
Saint Alfio, Filadelfo, and Cirino Scholarship: The applicant must be a member in good standing of the graduating class, and must have been accepted at an accredited higher school of learning. The award will be based on the following criteria: scholastic ability, financial need, character and community involvement, school and outside activities. Applications are available in Guidance. The Town of North Andover Republican Town Committee James Gammie Memorial Scholarship: Open to any graduating senior who is a resident of the Town of North Andover going on to a four year college or university who has demonstrated leadership skills, participated in community service and has shown good overall citizenship. Please submit a short essay on "WHAT MAKES YOU PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN?" Copy of transcript, GPA and rank, essay and application required. Lawrence Vietnam Memorial Scholarship: Applicant must be a high school senior. Application and essay in 100 words or less: "What a Veteran Means to Me". Applications available in Guidance. Deadline: May 2, 2015
Matthew McCarthy Memorial Scholarship: For any senoir attending high school that needs financial assistance to attend college or technical school. Student must demonstrate extraordinary school spirit. They should be well respected among their teachers and peers. Requires a recommendation by a teacher or peer. GPA and essay required. Applications available in Guidance. Deadline: April 25, 2015
Northern Essex Community College Scholarships: Two different scholarships being offered with multiple recipients for each. NECC Foundation, Inc. Incoming Freshman Scholarship & NECC Alumni Association Incoming Freshman Scholarship. Transcript, counselor or teacher recommendation, application to NECC, scholarship application and brief personal statement describing your educational and careers goals AND how a scholarship from NECC will help you achieve those goals. Sargent Improvement Club: The Sargent Improvement Club of Methuen, MA will be awarding scholarships in various amounts to graduating seniors using the following criteria: have a family member who is a member in good standing at the Sargent Improvement Club of Methuen, activities and community service, and grades an academic qualifications. Rotary District 7930: $10,000 Service Above Self Scholarship: The award serves to recognize an outstanding high school senior who has demonstrated his/her commitment to SERVICE ABOVE SELF in his/her town/community. it is designed to encourage the recipient to dedicate his/her professional life and personal life to improving the quality of life of people in his/her community and beyond. Potential applicants will be interviewed by the North Andover Rotary Club and one applicant will be submitted to a pool of applicants considered by the District. Children and grandchildren of Rotarians are not eligible. Applications are available in Guidance. Deadline: May 1, 2015
Methuen Festival of Trees Scholarship: Applicant must be a resident of the Merrimack Valley who is a high school senior. Criteria include: strength and quality of essay, activities and community service, grades and academic qualifications, financial need, volunteers of the Methuen Festival of Trees and students pursuing studies in historic preservation and restoration will receive special consideration. AACN Critical Care Nursing Scholarship: Two scholarships of $1,000 each. AACN is a group of local critical care nurses ho have joined together to support and enhance nursing knowledge, practice and professional achievement. Applicants must be graduating seniors going on to nursing school in college. Applications available in Guidance. Deadline: April 23, 2015
Phil Guza Memorial Scholarship: Applicant must be a graduating senior pursuing a bachelor's degree in math or science. Questionnaire, transcript, SAT/ACT scores, resume, letter of recommendation and essay required. Applications available in Guidance. Deadline: April 15, 2015
Methuen Memorial Music Hall Scholarships: Two $1,000 scholarships. Applicants must be graduating high school seniors who reside, attend school or participate in musical or cultural activities in the Merrimack Valley area, who are accepted to college for the 2015 - 2016 academic year and who are planning to pursue a major in music, musical performance or music education. Transcript, recommendation, resume and essay required. More information is available in Guidance. Deadline: May 15, 2015
Essex County Fire Wardens Association - Phillip A. Wood Memorial Scholarship: For graduating seniors seeking a degree in the following areas of study: Forestry, Botany, Horticulture, Soil Service, Plant Biology, Conservation, Watershed Management, Wildlife Management, Wildlife Biology, Animal and Veterinary Services, Park and Recreation Management, Fire Suppression and Fire Prevention.
