OUTSIDE SCHOLARSHIPS FOR SENIORS

The following scholarships are offered by local and national organizations. More detailed information on these scholarships is available on the websites listed below and also in the Guidance Office. Please note that deadlines and specific requirements for each of the scholarships differ greatly. It is the responsibility of the student to make certain that their applications and supporting documents are complete.

WACE National Co-Op Scholarship Program - This is a merit co-op scholarship awarded by WACE Partner Institutions. Application information available in Guidance. Application deadline: February 15, 2016
Order Sons of Italy in America - Charitable and Educational Trust - Students do not need to be affiliated with the Sons of Italy in America to apply. Application deadline: February 1, 2016
The Stephen Phillips Memorial Scholarship Fund, Inc. - Applicants will be judged on academic achievement, leadership and a willingness to work to contribute towards college. Application deadlines: Early application option: April 10, 2016 by 5:00pm; or May 2, 2016 by 12Noon
Aspiring Fashion Professional Scholarship - This is a $1,000 scholarship that will be awarded to students that are interested in pursuing a fashion degree at an accredited post-secondary school or college. Aspiring Animation Professional Scholarship - This is a $1,000 scholarship for students interested in pursuing an animation career path at an accredited post-secondary school or college. Shaw-Worth Memorial Scholarship - Each year this scholarship is awarded to a high school senior who has made a meaningful contribution to animal portection. The award consists of tuition assistance of up to $3,500, which may be divided among multiple recipients. Application Deadline: March 25, 2016
The Charles A. Doherty Memorial Foundation Scholarship - This scholarship exists to honor the memory of Charles A. Doherty, who died suddenly after an 8-mile run at age 34 due to complications attributable to a heart condition known as bicuspid aortic valve disease (BAVD). This scholarship is for graduates aspiring to a career in cardiology. Application Deadline: April 1, 2016
The Debra Luongo Scholarship Fund - This scholarship is eligible to any 2016 graduating senior who is interested in a career in cosmetology. Hair's Now offers a 1,000 hour course in cosmetology. The curriculum consists of classes in skin care, nail technology, business, and all theory and advanced techniques in hair artistry. Application Deadline: March 31, 2016
Yawkey Foundation Scholarship - The scholarship is an opportunity for graduating high school students entering private colleges in Massachusetts in 2016-17. This program is designed to make college affordable for talented, motivated, low-income students from Massachusetts. It provides a four-year renewable tuition scholarship and other supports to help students academically.
Application Deadline: February 12, 2016 at noon.
Edwin A. Buthmann Memorial Scholarship - This scholarship fund is an endowment of gifts given in memory of Edwin A. Buthmann, Scoutmaster of Troop 2 and Sunday School Teacher of the former United Presbyterian Church of Lawrence, MA. This scholarship is intended for students who will study to pursue careers in professional scouting and/or a profession related to social or community services with an emphasis on counseling or educating yourth. Robert L. Himber Memorial Scholarship - This scholarship has been designated for students who are studying foreign languages with the intention of entering the field of Education and/or International Business. Application Deadline: April 15, 2016
The Rebekah Assembly of Massachusetts, of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows - This scholarship, for $500.00, is offered to qualified seniors who plan to futher their education by attending a two or four-year college program. Application Deadlne: March 15, 2016
Lawrence General Hospital School Of Nursing Alumni Association - This scholarship is offered to senior students who have been accepted for any accreddited nursing degree program, as an entry level, full time student. Application Deadline: April 13, 2016
North Andover Merchants Associatioin - The North Andover Merchants Association will be awarding a $2,000 scholarhip to both a young man and young woman who are seeking to advance their eduction in the field of business. Application Deadline: March 7, 2016
North Andover Merchants Association Entrepreneur Award - The North Andover Merchants Associaiton wil be awarding $500 to a young man or young woman who has established a business in North Andover. Application Deadline: March 7, 2016
Journalism Education Foundation of New England - There are a number of $1,000 scholarships to be given to high school seniors who plan to pursue a career in journalism. Interested students can download the scholarship application from the New England Newspaper & Press Association website www.nenpa.com. Application Deadline: March 11, 2016
Mark Bavis Leadership Foundation - These scholarships are an annual grant ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 to be used as speificallly requested for school tuition, summer programs and other appropriate extracurricular activities. The scholarship is not academically based, but is awarded on the basis of need. The committee is looking for exceptional leaders and students who have proven this leadership within their school. Buick Achievers Scholarhip Program - There are 50 scholarships each up to $25,000/year. This scholarship program recognizes students who have over-come obstacles, the steps they have taken, bettering themselves and their communities and yet are unable to attend college without financial assistance. Saint Alfio, Filadelfo, and Cirino Scholarship - They will be awarding six $1,000 scholarships. Applicants must be a member in good standing of the graduating class in the year in which he or she is applying. The applicant must also have been accepted at an accredited school of higher learning. Application Deadline: April 30, 1916
Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts - They offer 11 different scholarships. These scholarships were created to assist and encorage college level students who are intereted in horticultural sciences, botany, environmental sciences, landscape design, city planning and biology. The Newburyport Choral Society Betty Gillette Scholarship - This scholarship is for $1,000 and will be awarded to a high school senior who is plannig to major in music at the collegiate level. NAAAP Boston Future Leader Award Scholarship - The purpose of this scholarship is to recognize outstanding local high school seniors who have demonstrated leadership qualities inside and outside of the classroom. These awards are open to all Masachusetts high school seniors who are of Asian and/or Pacific Islander descent. ESL/ELL candidates are encouraged to apply. Delta Kappa Gamma, Epsilon Chapter Scholarship - The Delta Kappa Gamma, Epsilon Chapter an organization comprised of women educators, is offering a $500 scholarship to a member of the Class of 2016. Their criteria is as follows, a female student who wants to be a teacher, and lives in a DKG member community. Has shown good citizenship. Must be entering a two-year or four-year college and shows concern for others through school and/or community activities. Applications are available in the Guidance Dept. Joe Cleres Memorial Scholarship - The awards this year will vary between $2,000 and $500 based on tuition needs. The scholarship program is open to anyone who has a disability - either mentally or physically challenged. There is no financial qualification. Applications are available in the Guidance Dept. Methuen Sons of Italy Lodge 902 - This scholarship is in the amount of $1,000. To qualify for this scholarship the applicant must be a member of good standing of the graduating class of 2016. Applicants must be current members of the Junior Division of Lodge 902 or children or grandchildren of current members of the Methuen Sons of Italy Lodge 902. Applications are available in the Guidance Dept. Application Deadline: March 31, 2016
North Shore Players Memorial Scholarship for the Performing Arts - The scholarship amount this year is $750. This scholarship will be granted to a graduating senior who plans to major in the performing arts (theatre, music, dance). Essex Agricultural Society (Topsfield Fair) - This is a $1,000 Scholarship. This scholarship is offered annually to well-rounded students, with an emphasis on activities and volunteer performances. Charles E. Larner Family Foundation (Topsfield Fair) - The scholarship award is $2,000. This scholarship is for high school seniors pursuing Agriculture as their college studies. Applications are available online www.topsfieldfair.org or in the Guiance Department. Application Deadline: March 31, 2016
2016 Student-View Scholarship Program - This scholarship program offers one $4,000 scholarship; two $1,000 scholarships and ten $500 scholarships. It is quick and easy to apply. College Club of Greater Lawrence - This scholarship program offers several $1,000 scholarships. This scholarship is based on financial need, leadership, and community service. Students who plan to enroll in a four year degree granting program and are a resident of North Andover are eligible to apply. Applications are available in the Guidance Department. Application Deadline: March 18, 2016
Merrimack Valley Chapter of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN) - They are offering two scholarship awards of $1,000 each. These scholarsips will be awarded to graduating seniors who will be studying nursing. Applications are available in the Guidance Department. Application Deadline: April 15, 2016
Merrimack Valley Partners in Service - The award(s) will be a minimum of $1,000. These award(s) will be given to a graduating senior who will attend a post-secondary institution in the 2016-2017 academic year. The scholarship committee will consider the applicant's participation in community service, academic achievement and strength of character. Lawrence Vietnam Memorial Scholarship - $6,000 in scholarships were awarded last year. Applicants must be a high school senior. Applicants must submit an essay in 100 words or less describing "What a Veteran Means to Me". Applications are available in the Guidance Department. Application Deadline: May 7, 2016
League of Essex County Sportsmen's Clubs, Inc. - The award is $500. This scholarship is available for students entering or participating in recognized programs toward a bachelor or higher degree in any field deemed by the League as important to the scientific managment of wildlife or wildlife habitat. The League is particularity interested in learning about the applicant's history as a sportsman, camper, hiker or other experience in the out of doors and in the applicant's knowledge of the positive relationship between sportsmen and the environment. Massachusetts Broadcasters Association Student Broadcaster Scholarship Program - The award is $2,000. Students who are permanent residents of Massachusetts and are in the process of enrolling, or are currently enrolled, at an accredited institution of higher learing are encouraged to apply. Such institutions include vocational schools, 2 or 4 year colleges or universities offering degrees in radio and television broadcasting. The Valley Patriot Scholarship - This scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior. Preference will be given to students who attended the Thomson Elementary School and participated in the Thomson School Newspaper. Preference will also be given to the son or daughter of a police officer, firefighter or veteran. The awardee must be present at the Scholarship Award Dinner on March 25th to receive the scholarship.
