OUTSIDE SCHOLARSHIPS FOR SENIORS
The following scholarships are offered by local and national organizations. More detailed information on these scholarships is available on the websites listed below and also in the Guidance Office. Please note that deadlines and specific requirements for each of the scholarships differ greatly. It is the responsibility of the student to make certain that their applications and supporting documents are complete.

Yawkey Foundation Scholarship: The program seeks to support and encourage students who are a current senior at an acredited high school in MA; who have a strong academic record, or demonstration of significant improvement over time; who are planning to attend a competitive private college in MA; who are engaged in a meaningful mentoring relationship; who are involved in a balance of community, school and work activities; who exhibit leadership potential; and who have unmet financial need and would benefit from scholarship support so that they can graduate with a manageable loan burden. This is a four-year, renewable scholarship to cover tuition and fees. The maximum annual schoalrship is $25,000. Application, transcript, essays, recommendation, tax returns and FAFSA SAR report are required. Steven Phillips Memorial Scholarship Fund: Fund offers a renewable, 4-year scholarships to students from New England with financial need. Successful candidates are those who display academic achievement, service to others, good character, leadership qualities, and a willingness to work to contribute to college, personal and/or family expenses. Applicants must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale. Awards range from $3,000 - $15,000. Transcript, recommendations, FAFSA SAR report, college financial aid award letter, tax returns, and resume are required. More information is available in Guidance or at www.phillips-scholarship.org Application will be available in mid-January 2014 with a final deadline of May 1, 2014.
American College Foundation - Visionary Scholarship Program: Awards range from $1,000 to $5,000, open to freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors. Application available at: www.americancollegefoundation.org Use Invitation Code M7732 to apply. Requirements: application, copy of student's most recent report card, and a 500 word essay. A flyer is also available in the Guidance Office. Deadline: April 1, 2014
Henry David Thoreau Foundation Scholarship: selects Massachusetts' high school seniors interested in environmental studies to receive up to $20,000 for tuition to the college of their choice. For application go to: www.thoreauscholar.org Deadline: February 1, 2014
Order of the Sons of Italy (Belmont Chapter): Charitable and Educational Trust - $1,000 scholarships, letter of recommendation, your interests and activities, transcript, SAT or ACT scores, photo and $10 processing fee. You must follow specific instructions on application. Applications available in Guidance. Deadline: February 1, 2014
Valley Patriot Newspaper Scholarship: For a North Andover High School graduating senior attending college or the military in the fall. Student must have attended the Thomson Elementary School and participated in the Thomson School newspaper, “Tiger Times” or “Tiger Prints”. Applications available in Guidance. Deadline: March 1, 2014
Mark Bavis Leadership Foundation Scholarship: for MA high school seniors; $1000 - $5,000 grants; the scholarship is not academically based, but is awarded on the basis of need. The Scholarship Committee is looking for exceptional leaders and people who have proven this leadership within their school. In addition, students who have made efforts to make a difference in their community will receive special consideration. Applications available in Guidance. Deadline: January 15, 2014
Massachusetts JCI Senate Scholarship: The MA JCI Senate will award two $1,000 scholarships to graduating students in Massachusetts. The state winners will be forwarded to the National JCI Senate and will be eligible for additional $1,000 scholarships. Applications are available at: http://majcisenate.weebly.com/ The application must be mailed to: Tom Sawran, 84 Central Street, Foxboro, MA 02035 and postmarked by: January 11, 2014.
Ithaca College - The Martin Luther King Scholar Program is an interdisciplinary learning community emphasizing citizenship and service in our global community. The program is offered to academically exceptional students from traditionally underrepresented populations who have demonstrated strong character and leadership through service and community involvement. Scholars receive a minimum award of $25,000 up to full tuition annually which is renewable for four years. If you are interested in applying for this scholarship, applications are available in the Guidance Office. Deadlines: January 2 - Common Application due; January 15 - Program application due.
Elks National Foundation Most Valuable Student Scholarships: outstanding students with financial need who are at or near the top of their classes, active in their school and communities, and recognized as leaders by their peers. Applications will be based on scholarship, leadership and financial need. Applications available on-line at www.elks.org/enf/scholars Due date: December 6, 2013

National CO-OP Scholarship Program - WACE Scholarship: To qualify, students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or better on a 4.0 scale, and must apply and be accepted for the 2014 - 2015 academic year at one of the WACE Partner Institutions: Clarkson University, SUNY - Oswego, Drexel University, University of Cincinnati, Johnson & Wales University, UMASS - Lowell, Rochester Institute of Technology, University of Toledo, and Wentworth Institute of Technology. Salem Animal Rescue League - Hayes Family Scholarship: will be awarded to a Merrimack Valley high school senior interested in pursuing a college career in animal sciences, pre-veterinary/veterinary technology, or a related field. Transcript, Resume and 2 essays (500 words each) are required. Applications available in Guidance. Deadline: April 11, 2014.
Hood Sportsmanship Scholarship: Three $5,000 scholarships to be awarded in Massachusetts. High school seniors who have participated in a varsity sport and who will be furthering their education by attending a two or four-year accredited college next. Students must habe a 3.0 cumulative GPA or higher, and performed volunteer work in the community. Essay, transcript and resume required. More info available in Guidance. Deadline: March 3, 2014 at 3:00 pm EST.
Chorus North Shore - $1,000 Choral Arts Award: For high school seniors graduating from a public, private or home school on the North Shore, and who will be attending a school of higher learning with a concentration in the areas of choral conducting, sacred music, or vocal music education. Application, transcript, two references, and essay required. Application available in Guidance. Deadline: March 14, 2014
Marist College Technology Scholarships: For high school seniors applying to Marist College, who will be majoring in Computer Science or Information Technology and Systems. Application for admission available at: www.marist.edu/admission. You will automatically considered for the scholarships if you declare either of the above two majors. Deadline to apply for admission: February 1, 2014
McDaniel College - Dorsey Scholars Program: 5 comprehensive (tuition, room and board) scholarships for incoming freshmen. Automatically selected from pool of Honors Program applicants. Minimum criteria: SAT CR & M of 1400, cumulative GPA of 3.8 on a 4.0 scale. More information is available in Guidance. Deadline to apply for admission: January 2, 2014
The Filene Music Scholarship Competition at Skidmore College: ($12,000 per year) a special opportunity for musically gifted students with high academic aspirations. The program does not require that scholarship winners major in music. However, the Music Department requires all winners to remain active in its musical life, including participation in appropriate ensembles. More information is available in Guidance. Rotary District 7930 Service Above Self Scholarship: Members of the NAHS Interact Club are eligible to apply. The purpose is to recognize an outstanding high school senior who has demonstrated his/her commitment to Service Above Self in their community, a town or city with Rotary District 7930, and financial assist the recipient with his/her future studies with this $10,000 scholarship. Application materials available in Guidance. Deadline: May 1, 2013.

Ithaca College - Park Scholar Awards for students applying to the Roy H. Park School of Communications. Through a mixture of academic and service programming, Park scholars are challenged to give back to their communities, using the power of well-designed messages and contemporary media to make a positive impact on the world. The award covers the full cost of attending - approximately $53,000, and includes stipends for living expenses, books, and a computer purchase of $2,500. University of Dayton - Leadership in Service Scholarship: If you are applying to the University of Dayton and have an innate desire for personal development, and are committed to service at NAHS or in the community, you may be eligible to be nominated for this $2,250/year scholarship. Deadline for nomination: January 31, 2014.
Nichols College - New England Principal's Leadership Award: If you are applying to Nichols College and meet the following criteria, please notify your Guidance Counselor. Criteria: A student who demonstrates academic, promise, ambition, and leadership in your school and community; have an unweighted cumulative GPA between 2.5 and 3.5; at least a 1250 three-way SAT (verbal, math, and writing); exemplary leadership and involvement in your school or community.
