Fiske Guide to Colleges – 2010

The author researches colleges across the country each year, and rates them according to academics, social life, and quality of life. This guide is an industry standard used by guidance counselors in helping their students find colleges that fit their needs.  Please note that colleges listed in this book are not always listed in other college guides.  There is a greater emphasis on academics and quality of education in this guide. 

The Princeton Review: Best 371 Colleges - 2010

This guide is targeted to the prospective college freshman, who is looking for an easy to read overview of colleges that the Princeton Review has rated as being the best 371 colleges in the country.  Though a good source of information on the colleges that do supply information to them, it may overlook some colleges that don’t participate in their surveys and questionnaires, but do provide quality education. Peterson’s Four-Year Colleges – 2010

This 1st section called Colleges at a Glance compares the latest facts and figures on more than 2,500 colleges in the U.S. and Canada.  The 2nd section called College Close-Ups give more detailed information about the colleges.  The 3rd section called Majors Listing helps students find colleges offering the majors they are considering.

U.S. News & World Report: 2010 Edition of America’s Best Colleges

Each year the magazine publishes their guide to America’s best colleges.  There are articles on college admission, scholarships, college life etc.   The colleges are ranked by different categories.  The magazine is a handy referral guide with colleges listed by state including admission criteria, popular majors, college mailing addresses, e-mail addresses and phone numbers. An online version of the report is also available.
