Academic Bowl
Students who are selected for this activity compete against middle school students from our neighboring communities. They answer questions covering general knowledge, school subjects (social studies, math, language arts, science and world language), sports, entertainment, art, and music. For more information on the Academic Bowl, see the Greater Lawrence Educational Collaborative web site.
After Hours
After Hours usually runs in two sessions (one in the fall and one in the spring). Activities are determined by student and teacher interest. Our faculty offers a broad range from a variety of intramural sports, art, crafts, cooking, and board games. All students are welcomed.
Drama
Grade six will have a production in the late fall to early winter. Tryouts will be open to all sixth graders interested in an after school production and performance.
Grade 7 and 8 will have a musical production in the spring. All interested seventh and eighth grade students will have the opportunity to try out at announced times and dates after school. Cast will be chosen and posted and rehearsal will begin shortly thereafter. Rehearsals are after school from early winter through the spring.
MATHCOUNTS
MATHCOUNTS is a national math enrichment and competition program that is available to our middle school students. MATHCOUNTS heightens student interest in math by making math achievement as challenging, exciting and prestigious as a school sport. This program meets once a week after school from October until February. In February, selected students compete at the local level with winners progressing to state competitions in March. MATHCOUNTS challenges students’ math skill, develops their self-confidence and rewards them for their achievement. For more information, please visit the MATHCOUNTS Web site.
Student Council
Student Council is a school-wide activity that is open to middle school student on a voluntary basis. The goal of the Student Council is to help students participate in their school and community. Students meet after school, under the direction of Ms. Gilmore, and discuss about upcoming projects, concerns or ideas. Past projects include food and stuffed animal drives, daffodil days, school improvement, volunteering for local charities and many others. The Student Council is a great way for interested students to take an active role in their community and school while receiving a nifty tie-dyed t-shirt. Our motto is "How Can I Help?"
