PTAC President's Message November 2008 PDF Print E-mail

PTAC would like to thank everyone who supported the magazine drive or made a direct donation. We realize that this is a difficult time to be asking families for financial support and our fundraising results reflect that.

The magazine drive is PTAC’s biggest fundraiser and is a large undertaking. We’d like to thank Betsy Manteiga, Robin Markowsky, Melinda Coppa and the many, many volunteers who helped on turn-in days and prize days. And our thanks also go to the entire NAMS staff for their support and patience during the 2 week drive.

A detailed review of the magazine drive is included in this newsletter. It was evident during the drive that our original estimates on the profit were going to fall short. NAMS PTAC earns 43% of the money collected, less expenses for the drive. The Direct Donation campaign to date has received $1,645 from 44 out of 878 NAMS families. Last year 80 families directly donated $3,670. PTAC’s original projected 08-09 revenue from the magazine drive and the direct donation campaign was $47,000.  In light of the current economic situation, we have revised that total to $38,000 and we’re approximately $1,400 away from that goal. We also find ourselves having to cut back in most areas of the budget to meet the new revenue amount.

The bulk of the budget expenses do not happen until the spring and any financial support through the end of this year will help sustain traditional PTAC activities and events. Please remember that magazine subscriptions can be renewed or ordered all year long by going to www.QSP.com. Use the school code 425007139 and NAMS will receive 40% of the sale. Direct donation forms are available on the PTAC page on the website and can be mailed in or brought to the office. If 70 more families were to donate $20 this year, the revised revenue projections would be met.

The PTAC board realizes that savings need to be found in the budget and choices need to be made on the best use PTAC money. Input from both parents and staff is very important to help determine what the priorities should be. Your feedback can be forwarded to any board member. You can also be a part of the discussion by attending the November PTAC meeting.

The next meeting is Thursday, November 13th. The business meeting will be 6:00 – 7:00PM in the library. Immediately following the meeting, School Committee members Chris Nobile and Chris Allen will speak to parents and answer questions regarding middle school related issues. All are welcome to join us that evening.

As always, please feel free to contact any one of us with comments, suggestions or questions.
