The Middle School Art program provides an exploration into a variety of creative experiences in both two and three dimensional design.


In each grade, students are exposed to certain media while mastering particular standards.


6th Grade
In 6th grade, students focus on the Elements and Principles of Art. The Elements include: line, shape, color, texture, and value.  The Principles are: repetition, variety, contrast, proportion, perspective, dominance, and balance.  Through the study of the Elements and Principles, students will be better able to recognize and achieve unity in their own work as well as in the work of others.


Some of the projects that students may complete in the 6th grade are:


Keith Haring        Students will study the artwork and motivation for Haring’s artwork then choose a human, global, or social issue and create a Haring-style composition.  


Mask Making     Students will study the meanings of and materials used by several different cultures to make ceremonial masks and create their own using a plaster base and their choice of materials.


Puppet Making    Students study cartooning and create their own original, unique character as a puppet using paper mache, fabric, and their choice of materials to represent and achieve their goals.


Mixed Media Collage    Students study the work of abstract artists, using the work as inspiration for thier own composition


Graphic Design- Creating an identity through logos and business cards specific to the individual artists.
