School Resource Officers

The main responsibilities of a school resource officer are:
  • Ensuring the safety of the students of North Andover in school and out in the community. This also leads to lending support to those who are experiencing difficulty at home.
  • Working very closely with the administrators and guidance counselors at each of the schools, as well as with the youth center and individual teachers.
  • Teaching programs, with other officers from North Andover and Andover, for self-defense and teaching children how to protect themselves in day to day situations.
  • Giving presentations to students on Social Media and Cyberbullying. Working with students and their parents on how to appropriately use technology and social media.
Officer Kara Caffrey

The North Andover Public Schools is lucky to have Officer Kara Caffrey as our School Resource Officer for NAMS and the elementary schools. Officer Caffrey grew up in North Andover and went through the school system here. Her mission is to make sure students feel safe no matter where they are; and for them to know that they have people in the community who they can reach out to if they need help.

Officer Caffrey graduated from St. Anselm College with a Bachelor Degree in Criminal Justice. She then went on to graduate from Boston University with my Master's in Education, School Counseling. She is licensed as both a Guidance Counselor and Adjustment Counselor in the state of Massachusetts.

To contact Officer Caffrey, you can email her at kcaffrey@napd.us or call the Police Department's non-emergency number at (978) 683-3168.
