PLAYGROUND MEETING
I received some new information and fantastic news regarding the play structures. I met with a representative of Columbia Cascade, the company which supplied the wood for the original build, and learned that the wood is not pressure treated and can be sanded and sealed. The company will be forwarding documentation regarding the wood and a detailed report of all necessary repairs and recommendations. In addition, a local company, recommended by Columbia Cascade, surveyed the play structures on Thursday and will be providing a report and an estimate for the sanding and sealing of the wood.
I still plan to hold the meeting for all interested parents on Wednesday, November 5th at 6:00PM in the Art Room. There are different options to be considered prior to the reopening the structures. If you have an interest in participating on this project, please join us. This meeting will end prior to the monthly PTO meeting which will begin at 7:00PM.
Bakugan
Please have your children keep the Bakugans at home. The toys are being traded and played with at recess and the teachers have reported that some of the items have been lost and damaged which has caused some tears. Thank you with your help with this issue.
From Dr. Marini
As we approach another “snow season”, it may be helpful to review some options which may be used because of weather conditions. School cancellations and 2 hour delayed openings are announced on the following television and radio stations:
Radio Stations: WRKO (680 AM) WCCM (1490 AM) WBZ (1030 AM)
TV Stations – Channels 4, 5, 7 and local channel 10
If school is held, but conditions are still very bad on any particular street or area in town, parents may use their own judgment in determining whether or not to send a student to school. A student will be marked absent/excused in such a case.
There is a remote possibility of an early dismissal from school when safety considerations might make such a decision necessary. We will make every effort not to dismiss elementary schools early. However, if it is necessary to dismiss schools early, we want to make sure all children have proper supervision available for them. If you are not at home, you should make arrangements with older children, friends, family or neighbors for your young child’s supervision. I know that you will understand that it is not possible for the schools to call parents on the telephone to inform them of early closing. We will utilize the early dismissal information you provided on the back of the Emergency Card at the beginning of the school year.
We ask that you keep informed about weather conditions on any school day when it begins to snow after school has begun and monitor the television and/or radio listed above for any announcements of an early release.
Your cooperation and assistance will be very helpful to our efforts in planning for students’ safety.
CORI Forms
The format of the CORI Forms has changed. All volunteers and employees must renew their CORI every three years. If you need to renew, please stop by the office to obtain the new form and provide a copy of your license.
