PRESIDENT'S NOTES:
SAVE the date: All 5th graders are urged to mark their calendars to attend the first town wide 5th Grade Dance, Friday May 14th from 7-9pm in the Sargent School gymnasium. Tickets will be $10 in advance, $12.00 at the door. Parents able to volunteer that evening are asked to email Mary at mewirtz@comcast.net or Snowy at jimsnowy@yahoo.com.
Nominations for next year's PTO will take place in April. Parents have expressed interest in many of the positions; however, none so far for the critical positions of Treasurer and Assistant Treasurer. Please contact any current PTO board member to learn more about their specific role in Sargent's PTO.

Library
Sargent School Book Drive - Do you have some great books that are currently collecting dust on your shelves? Why not bring them in so that they can be enjoyed by others including children in need. Books will be shared with Foster Kids of Merrimack Valley Inc. and Friends of Stevens Memorial Library. Books for preschoolers, school-aged children, or adults, we'll find them a good home! Please bring in your gently-used books Monday 3/8 through Friday 3/12 - boxes will be located in the Sargent School lobby. Questions can be addressed to Hilary Bugbee at tbugbee@comcast.net
Blast Off for Books! Packets were returned to students last week with pledge sheets tallied and totaled. Please have your student collect all his/her pledges and return them to school along with the pledge sheet in the envelope provided that contains the students name and class, by Wednesday 3/10 . Checks should be made payable to Sargent PTO. Thanks to all who participated - stay tuned for the winning class and high earner announcements!
Other committee announcements
Yearbooks are now on sale!! Order forms have been sent home in the student’s backpacks and the cost per book is $13.00. Checks can be made out to "Sargent PTO". If you have any questions please contact Sue Holland at suetholland@comcast.net.
Mama Mia Pasta Ria – Tomorrow night is the night for great food and fun hosted by our Sargent Fifth Graders! The children have been working hard to bring you a great event. We are expecting over 500 people to be served during the course of the evening. You will receive a reminder e-mail with your seating time, menu, and list of raffle items. Here’s a neat tip from Real Simple magazine: Save that pretty tissue box when it’s empty and use it to store those plastic grocery store bags that you’ve been saving for trash liners or Fido’s walks. Bags compact neatly & attractively and the box can stored easily if you need to save several.

TerraCycle Brigade News!
The Green Team recently received a check for over $275 from Terracycle and we already are expected to receive a few hundred dollars more for the June check at the end of this school year! A lot will be collected between now & then!
New! The Cookie Brigade now also accepts Keebler brand cookie wrappers in addition to Nabisco brands! Family sized bags from home are also welcomed, so send those in as well!
New! Cadbury gum, makers of Trident®, Dentyne®, Stride® and Bubblicious® - are a new partner with TerraCycle
for the Gum Wrapper Brigade!The Gum Wrapper Brigade accepts all types of gum wrappers - from blister packs and individual wrappers, to family size bags and the cellophane exterior packaging. For each approved package received, 2¢ will be donated to our school! Shipping costs for all TerraCycle Brigades are paid by the program sponsors.
Please make sure there is no used gum left in the packaging before depositing. Gum wrappers & containers may be deposited in the Cookie Brigade collection bin in the café until a new container just for Candy Wrapper & Gum Wrapper collections is purchased. Thank you!

Destination ImagiNation – Please come to cheer on Sargent students at their Destination ImagiNation regional tournament performances on Sunday March 21st! The tournament is at the Triton Regional High School, 112 Elm Street in Byfield, MA. The students have been working very hard throughout the year to present these solutions in a public setting. The full North Andover performance schedule will be available at www.nadikids.org.
10:20 a.m. (Auditorium) – The Silver Dragons. The Silver Dragons are solving the ‘You’re Gonna Flip’ challenge. You’ll see greedy elephants, a peanut piñata, hungry mice, and a cat conscience trying to create some peace…
10:40 a.m. (Chorus Room) – The Love Bugs. Egyptian toy-box discovered.
11:40 a.m. (Chorus Room) – The Dogs.
12:00 p.m. (Chorus Room) – GO DI. GO DI have gone buggy!! A bug has been discovered! Word on the street is that it can run, talk, laugh … What else can it do? … Come to the tournament to hear the full story in the newscast about this amazing bug!
1:40 p.m. (Media Center) – The Milky Way. Juggling magic tricks and bear battles in a robot-enabled Grabnork pizza parlor.
3:20 p.m. (Small Gym) – The Lunar Eclipse. The village on the other side of the mountain needs medicine, QUICK! How can The Lunar Eclipse get the medicine to them in time?
3:40 p.m. (Small Gym) – The Super Harley Flying Eggheads! The farmer’s daughter needs to bring the eggs to market, but has discovered an enormous pile of poop is in the way. She needs to get the eggs over the poop and safely into the baskets on the truck for delivery. How will she do this???? Come to the tournament to see how The Super Harley Flying Eggheads! solve this challenge!

Family Cooperative Preschool 25th Anniversary of Deedee Roberts Celebration and Auction: Family Cooperative Preschool is celebrating head teacher Deedee Roberts as she reaches her 25th Anniversary milestone at the school. At North Andover Country Club on Saturday March 27th at 7 PM, join us as we commemorate this special teacher and special school. Silent, Live and Raffle items; passed hors d'oeuvres and cash bar. Tickets are $40 per person and can be obtained by e-mailing familycoopauction@gmail.com.

The Surf's Up and you still have a Chance to catch that Wave!
The Annual Mother-Son Dance will be held on Friday, March 26th for Kindergarten - 2nd grade and Saturday, March 27th for 3rd - 5th grade at the North Andover High School Cafeteria. This annual event, hosted by the Atkinson Elementary PTO, is a great way to spend time with your son and start a tradition. The theme is the relaxed and fun "Surf's Up," so if you have a Hawaiian shirt and sandals you're ready for a night of dancing, raffles, door prizes, and baked goods. There is even be a professional photographer on hand to take pictures of Mom and her special date!

People's Pantry Baby Food Donation Drive:
Sargent School's Brownie Troop # 66574 will be collecting baby food donations until March 12th for the People's Pantry in North Andover. They will be collecting baby food jars of fruit, vegetables, dinners and meats as well as boxes of baby food cereal. The need is especially high for jars of fruit. Please, no baby formula donations, as not all baby formula is safe for all babies. Donations can be dropped off in the plastic bin in the foyer of Sargent School marked "Brownie Troop #66574 Baby Food Donations" until March 12th. Your donations will be greatly appreciated by those need!!
Essex Art Center registering for spring classes for children (age 3+) through adults, offering clay, drawing, painting, sculpture and more. Register for School Vacation Art Camps for ages 5-6, 7-10, and 10+ in April. Like Movies?
