Greetings!
This week our teachers will participate in further professional development on the new reading series, Reading Street. Literacy and reading are essential for the development of each child. At Sargent, we want to ensure that everyone in our school community is dedicated to teaching the best literacy practices. We are fortunate to have Dr. Ilda King working with Sargent teachers on February 22nd. Dr. King is an educational and developmental psychologist who has done extensive work with schools to help educators develop fluent readers. One of the best ways to build fluency is to have multiple opportunities to read.
Our library continues to be our best source for books for all of our readers. I hope that you will support your child with Math Blaster as well as the Birthday Book Club so that we can continue to build up our library.
MCAS dates are posted on the school web page. Sargent administration dates will be posted on the Sargent calendar. Please plan your vacations and Dr. appointments around these dates.
Last week students whose selections were chosen for Appleseed Literary Magazine read their selections with morning announcements. Next week we will begin to accept selections for the spring issue of Appleseed. Please encourage your child to write or draw for the spring issue. It is so rewarding for them to have a piece get published.
Kindergarten registration forms are online. Please help spread the word.
