Happy March!
March is a busy month at Sargent! We will celebrate Read Across America! Throughout the month we will participate in various activities related to reading. We are going to challenge the students to collectively read 5000 books by the end of the month. Students will be given certificates for each book read and we will measure the total progress. Please be sure to help out by continuing to read to and with your child.
On Wednesday we will celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday. Your child should bring their favorite Dr. Seuss book to school on Wednesday.
Stay tuned to Monday Minutes for information regarding the Book Drive and the Book Fair.
Please remember that MCAS testing begins this month. Both third and fourth grade will begin the English Language Arts component the week of March 23rd. Please check the Sargent calendar on the web page for all testing dates.
March 9th is a professional development day for the teachers, which means early dismissal for the students. It also means that the morning kindergarten children stay at home and the afternoon children come to school in the morning. Please mark your calendars. March 9th is also the night of the Fifth Grade Pasta Dinner. I hope to see you there!
Our School Council has been meeting to write the school improvement plan for 2010-2011. We welcome Cathy Dawson as our community member to the council.
If your child rides the bus to and from school, please remind them of the appropriate way to behave on the school bus. We will be doing the same here at school. It is imperative that the children remain in their seats at all times. Thank you for your assistance.
Thank you to the many parents who were able to volunteer at school last week. Our day was successful and your support was greatly appreciated.
Have a good week!
