Destination ImagiNation (DI) is an exhilarating after-school activity in which students work in teams to solve mind-bending Challenges and present their solutions at Tournaments.
Teams are tested to think on their feet, work together and devise original solutions that satisfy the requirements of the Challenges. Participants gain more than just basic knowledge and skills—they learn to unleash their imaginations and take unique approaches to problem solving.
Teams consist of up to 7 children who range from grades K-2 and grades 3-5. Challenges for 2010-2011 from which the teams choose are:
Rising Stars (grades K-2):
Big Bugs Bad Day (science and performance)
Challenge Teams (grades 3 – 5)
Challenge A: unidentified moving object (technical)
Challenge B: spinning a tale (scientific)
Challenge C: triple take road show (fine arts)
Challenge D: mythology mission (improvisational)
Challenge E: verses! Foiled again! (structural)
Teams meet up to once a week starting in mid-to-late fall until the tournament month of March, during which time many teams choose to meet more frequently. In 2011, the regional Tournament is Saturday March 19th in Byfield, and the State Tournament is March 26th at WPI in Worchester.
Last year, Sargent sent almost 50 children on 8 teams to compete at the Regional Tournament. “HyperXtreme”, a team of 3rd graders from our school advanced to the State Tournament where they placed 3rd in the State!
Registration for DI is open for all levels; register now.
