What is Scrip?
Scrip is simply another word for a Gift Certificate. It is a term that means "substitute money". When you purchase scrip, you are purchasing negotiable gift certificates that are used just like cash. Scrip is issued by the national and local retailers where many of us already shop. These merchants want to support non-profit organizations like ours, and in return ask you to support them by shopping with scrip at their stores. Even everyday expenses like food, clothing, and other essentials can be purchased with scrip while earning money for our school.
How does Scrip work?
The way scrip works is that families pay the face value of the certificate and the school then receives a percentage of the sale from each card. Gift certificates are redeemed for the full face value. Merchants from whom we will be selling scrip are listed on the reverse side of this form.
How does Scrip benefit Annie L. Sargent?
Each time you order scrip, a profit is generated for our school – grocery stores are 5% and many clothing stores and restaurants are 7 -10%. For example, if you purchase a $25 gift certificate for Stop & Shop, they will give Sargent $1.25 and you will be able to buy $25 worth of groceries.
Why should you consider purchasing Scrip?
The reason is simple… buying products with scrip from participating retailers provides a steady source of fund raising revenue for Sargent.
How do I purchase Scrip?
We keep cards for several merchants on hand, simply print out the order form. Complete it and send it to school with your payment - checks should be made payable to Sargent PTO, or indicate that it should be charged to your PTO account, in an envelope marked "Scrip Order". Orders are due by Friday, and will be filled over the weekend and sent home on Mondays each week.
