Wednesday, February 9th - Sargent Pasta Dinner at NAMS

 Calendar – Full View

Presidents' Message

Another storm coming on Wednesday!  Are we in the movie "Groundhog Day" and somebody forgot to tell us?  The next PTO meeting is scheduled for this Wednesday, February 2 at 7:00.  However, if school is cancelled on Wednesday the PTO meeting will be cancelled also, and we will notify everyone of a new meeting date.

The meeting with Asst. Superintendent Hutchinson that was cancelled earlier this month due to weather, has been rescheduled for March 9.  Mrs. Desai put together an agenda with questions received before the cancelled meeting, but please keep sending any questions or concerns you might have and we will forward them to her.  SargentPTO.Pres1@gmail.com and SargentPTO.Pres2@gmail.com

The fifth grade Mama Mia Pasta Ria fundraiser is coming up fast on February 9.  Get your reservations in soon, tables are filling up quickly!  They have some great raffle items, also, and will be selling tickets before the dinner in case anyone who isn't able to attend the dinner would like to take a chance on the raffle items.  Sports tickets, an iPod touch, and Apple TV with a Netflix subscription are among the items.  Info to follow soon!

Hope you have a great week!

Kim and Chris

Committee Announcements

MathBlaster for the Outdoor Curriculum at Sargent School!

Your “Cadets” should be receiving their flyers and Space Ships today, Monday.  Have your child fill out their Space Ship if they are planning to participate in this year’s Math Blaster – as each homeroom reaches 50% participation, a Flower will start to bloom in the Sargent Entrance!  Please send in the Space Ships by NEXT Monday, February 7th.

Starting next week!  Calling all Math Blaster cadets to blast off to support our outdoor curriculum projects!  Math Blaster is Sargent’s Academic fundraiser, for which children receive pledges from family and friends for completing Math Problems.  Each child will receive their grade-level packet by Friday February 11th for completion before or during the February Break.  Math Blaster Packets will be due back to school by Wednesday March 2nd.

This year, Math Blaster will support our Outdoor Curriculum.  The School District has approved Sargent PTO’s plans to install a Garden Area for use by EVERY child in EVERY class from Kindergarten-5th grade in support of the science curriculum.  Our plans are to make the Garden Area operational THIS SPRING so the class of 2011 can enjoy it too, but we need your help!  Materials for the 3 raised bed gardens, (including a handicap accessible one) a fence to enclose it and a stable support system around the beds will cost about $5,000.  The planning of the project and all labor for its installation is being donated by the Sargent Garden Team and Sargent Parents.  But we still need to raise at least $5,000 to pay for this legacy project for our school!

Get ready; get excited to Blast Off for the great Outdoors at Sargent School!

Fourth grade Continental Math League:  We have just completed our third test and are among 13 elementary schools competing in the state of Massachusetts and nationwide for a final competition in May, 2011.  These students are committed and meet after school to solve complex word problems.  Congratulations to Alex, Jason, Frankie, Keenan, Colin, Evan, Nick, Kaleigh, Anuvind, Peter and Tatiana for competing and diligently completing supplemental math assignments representing the Annie L. Sargent School!  Fourth graders are not selected, and are welcome to join our Math League at anytime of the year.  Email Lynne L. Khater if interested or to pick up worksheets to do at home lkhater@comcast.net.
