Library Volunteer Information

posted Sep 23, 2019, 7:03 AM by Hillary Stasonis

A message from our school's librarian, Mrs. Fisher!

The ABECC Library Needs Your Help! The ABECC School Library is looking for Volunteers to help us with Student Library Time. Volunteer duties include: Checking in and Checking out Books, Re-shelving, Helping students find interesting reading materials, and having fun with us while we use Computers, STEM Toys, and Coding Tools. Library classes are held every day from 9:00 am to 11:15 am, and run through the end of the school year.

Volunteer Requirements

All adults who are interested in volunteering in the classroom must Complete a CORI form and bring it to the office with your license. Once your CORI is cleared you will be all set to volunteer! CORI Form:http://nak12.net/CORI

Each class runs for 45 minutes, and I am looking to have at least 2 Volunteers per class. Library Volunteers work a little differently than Classroom Volunteers, so you are not limited by only signing up your child's class. Many of our Library Volunteers sign up for a specific time frame, rather than a specific class. This allows all classes to have a quality experience during Library with adequate volunteer coverage.

The Library Sign-Up can be found at the following link: http://bit.ly/ABECCLibraryVolunteers19

Note: You do not need to create an account to Sign-Up using this site. Just enter your information so I know which spots are filled!

Your Kindergartener can experience a fun-filled and highly motivating summer program, which will reinforce balanced literacy and math skills. Help your child leap into First Grade this summer by increasing his/her self-confidence and academic skills.

This class is run in the same format of a typical Kindergarten day so that students can continue with their known routines such as morning meeting, Workboard, and Guided Reading groups. Daily individual assessments will be used to modify the curriculum to meet the individual needs of each student. Teachers will use various teaching methods, including whole group, small group, and individual instruction to work with each child on his/her level. Two experienced teachers will reinforce and expand the knowledge and skills your child gained this year in a low child/teacher ratio environment. Students will review basic Reading, Writing, and Math skills through various themes, which will also incorporate Art, Music, and Movement activities. Tip-Toe is a unique summer program imagined & offered exclusively for our incoming Kindergarteners! If your child will enter Kindergarten in September, this program is for them! The goal is to provide children with a sneak-peek at what Kindergarten will be like! The program is lead by current K teachers in the district and held in actual Kindergarten classrooms. Recommended Summer Reading List 2019 for Students Entering Grades K-5

posted May 28, 2019, 9:28 AM by Hillary Stasonis   [ updated Jun 24, 2019, 7:46 AM ]

We are shooting for the moon this summer with our reading goals as we team up with the public library for our Summer Reading Theme, “A Universe of Stories!” The books on this list are just suggestions! There are NO specific required titles for kids to read. Feel free to choose appropriate books for your unique reader. When deciding on books, have your child read a page out loud to see if it’s a good fit. If they struggle with more than a few words, it’s probably too difficult and may be a better choice for a read-aloud.

Dr. Tiffany Goddard selected as ABECC Principal

posted May 1, 2019, 6:57 AM by Hillary Stasonis

We are excited to announce that Dr. Tiffany Goddard has agreed to become the next Principal of the Anne Bradstreet Early Childhood Center (ABECC) starting July 1.  Dr. Goddard holds a Doctorate of Education from Boston University, Master’s of Education from Salem State University, and Bachelor of Arts from Saint Michael’s College.

As her resume outlines, Dr. Goddard has served as the Principal at Community Day Arlington Elementary School in Lawrence, a K-4 school with over 600 students, since 2016. Prior to becoming Principal, she served as the Head of School at Community Day for three years. Dr. Goddard has also held positions as a classroom teacher/lead teacher and a volunteer ESL classroom teacher.

Following the interview process, Dr. Goddard was chosen as a finalist for the ABECC Principal position.  During the finalist process, Dr. Goddard visited classrooms, responded to various performance assessments, and met with parents, teachers, staff, and district administrators.

Throughout this process, North Andover was looking for an administrator who exhibited proven success with strong leadership skills, knowledge of curriculum and instruction, experience with diverse populations, and the ability to work well with the ABECC community.

Dr. Goddard’s enthusiasm, collaboration skills, and experience, including developing a K-1 curriculum, leading professional development, programming for second-language learners, and engaging families in the school community, has made her our top choice for the ABECC Principal.

My thanks to the search committee, Allyson Garrett, Stacy Duval, Alison Sciamanna, Lauren Jurta, Ginny Burns, Stacey Melanson, Laurie Burzlaff, Marylou Connors, Jim Mealey and Greg Landry, for their participation in this important process.  I would also like to thank all of the parents and faculty who provided us invaluable feedback on the four finalists.

We feel fortunate that Dr. Goddard will be leading the ABECC and working collaboratively with Marylou Connors, Director of Child Development, to further advance our early childhood center.  I hope you will join us in welcoming Dr. Goddard to the ABECC and the North Andover community.
