PICC - The Planning and Information for College and Career Committee


The Planning and Information for College and Career Committee (PICC) is a volunteer group of parents who assist the North Andover High School Guidance Department in the planning, researching, and implementation of college and career related activities and events at NAHS. The committee began 12 years ago with a small group of parents who were going through the college search process with their own seniors. They found the sharing of information helped them better navigate this process. There are now over 30 members on the PICC Committee and that number continues to grow as new parents sign on to help with this effort. Some of last year’s PICC/Guidance events included the College Rep Visit Program, College Coffee Talks for parents, Alumni Luncheon and Seminar for Seniors, College Bound Juniors Night and Scholarship Knight.


The PICC committee welcomes new members and encourages parents of freshmen and sophomores to consider joining. As colleges become more and more competitive, it’s never too early to learn about the ins and outs of the college search process. ATTENTION PARENT VOLUNTEERS: We are in need of chairs and co-chairs for the following events.  Please read below:

PICC, the Planning and Information for College Committee is a volunteer group of parents who assist the NAHS Guidance Dept. in the planning and execution of college related events throughout the year.  Without the volunteer efforts of PICC, many of these events would not be possible.  

This year, we have several current PICC volunteers who will not be returning next year as their children will be graduating in June. A few of these volunteers, chair or co-chair three of our events.  We are looking for new volunteers to step-up and shadow these retiring chairs this year, and then take on the chair or co-chair position the following year. The events and descriptions are as follows:

14th Annual ALUMNI LUNCHEON and SEMINAR -   January 3, 2020 

Previous year’s graduates are invited back to the high school to participate in this two hour program.  It starts with a catered luncheon for our previous graduates, and is followed by a seminar for juniors and alumni conducted in a question and answer format. This lively discussion about college life on campuses across the country, is moderated by Guidance Director, Steve Nugent.  Chair or co-chair positions are responsible for:

  1. Updating and emailing the invitation to all of last year’s alumni.  Separate invitations are mailed to the Superintendent, and School Committee members.  

  2. Reaching out to volunteer parents who have indicated they would like to help with the Alumni Luncheon and Seminar.  Volunteers are needed for setting up, buying and picking up the food, organizing the space, and clean up. Food for this event is paid for by the NAHS PAC. 



COLLEGE TEST PREP FAIR -  This event is held the same night as our College Bound Juniors Night, and is set up like a mini college fair with ten or so different test prep companies exhibiting their unique test prep programs.  The chair or co-chairs will need to reach out and invite the test prep vendors, order the number of tables and chairs needed, set them up outside the Auditorium, and hang signage for the event. The Test Prep Fair is held one hour before College Bound Juniors Night and is open to sophomores, juniors and their parents.

COLLEGE BOUND JUNIORS NIGHT - Aid in set up and help the counselors with anything they may need during the event. 


The event is for seniors who have applied and been awarded local area scholarships. They are recognized at a reception and ceremony in their honor.  Scholarship recipients are invited to the awards ceremony not knowing which scholarship they will be receiving. Donors are invited to present the scholarships to them.  Liz Gorman has been the PICC chair for this event for the last five years. Her last child graduated from NAHS in 2016! The position requires attention to detail, good organizational skills, and much of it can be done from home. This is a great opportunity for two friends to co-chair the event together.  It is one of the most beautiful and eagerly anticipated events of the year.
