North Andover High School students are required to read at least two books during the summer. Students must be prepared to provide the titles of the two books that they have read for their respective English teachers. Please select from the list according to the grade you will be entering this fall. During the second week of September, class time will be provided to write both the draft and final version of a “long composition” in response to an “open-ended” question based upon the book selected at that time by your English teacher. The final drafts will be corrected and graded by your English/Language Arts teacher, and the grades will be incorporated into your first-term English/Language Arts grade.
Students who have not read a book from the appropriate list, and are therefore unprepared to write the “long composition,” will have 5 points deducted from their first-term grade in English/Language Arts. (Students who wish to receive extra credit for reading additional books from the grade level lists should make specific arrangements in September with their respective English/Language Art Teachers.)
