Assistant Superintendent Announcement

Dear North Andover Community,

I am excited to announce the selection of Pamela Lathrop as our Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning starting July 1, 2023, pending School Committee confirmation. We had almost 40 applicants for this position and conducted initial interviews with eight highly-qualified candidates. The four finalists had an opportunity to meet with North Andover stakeholders, which included additional interviews, meetings with parents and teachers, and completion of performance tasks.

Throughout the search process, it was apparent that Ms. Lathrop possesses extensive experience with curriculum implementation, social and emotional learning, and professional development. I was impressed with her intelligence, drive, communication skills, and collaborative approach to leadership.

Ms. Lathrop has been Principal of High Plain Elementary School since 2009. During her tenure, she has developed innovative programs and initiatives to meet the needs of a diverse school community that speaks over 40 different languages. Under Pam’s leadership, High Plain Elementary School was recognized in 2019 and 2020 by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education as a School of Recognition for High Growth and Exceeding Targets. Ms. Lathrop is a passionate leader who understands the importance of collaboration and partnerships between the school, parents, and other stakeholders, and is strongly committed to creating a culture of equity and inclusion for all students.

Pam served as a teacher and principal of the Franklin School in North Andover for nineteen years. Ms. Lathrop graduated from Merrimack College and has advanced degrees from Wheelock College and Salem State University. She also earned a Social/Emotional Learning certification through a year-long course at William James College. I am confident that Ms. Lathrop’s knowledge will help ensure a positive learning experience for our students.

I would like to take a moment to thank the following members of the search committee involved in this extensive and rigorous process:  Jim Mealey, Chair, Cindy Parent, Allynn Grantham, Ben Cabrera, Tiffany Goddard, Jane Broderick, Karen Murdoch-Lahey, Richard Cushing, Erien Gordon, Shaun Morgan, Tim Seibert, and Maureen Crawford Hentz.  I would also like to thank all of the teachers, parents, and community members who provided invaluable feedback throughout the process, as well as HR Director, Greg Landry for handling logistics and Kathleen Keenan for hosting a Community Night at Stevens Memorial Library.

Thank you for your continued support of the North Andover Public Schools.

Dr. Gregg T. Gilligan
