Saturday September 9, 2023 Update

Dear NAPS Community:

I hope you and your family have remained safe after yesterday’s wild storm. I am so grateful that we had an early release yesterday and avoided dismissing students during such a powerful and destructive storm. I know that many of you have no power and have been dealing with downed trees and property damage. I wanted to share some important information that may be helpful to you and your family.

Emergency Shelter

Last night the Town of North Andover set up an “emergency shelter” for residents without power at the new North Andover Senior Center located at 481 Sutton Street. The Senior Center will continue to serve as North Andover’s Emergency Shelter until further notice and is a great place to cool off and charge your electronic devices. The Red Cross Disaster Relief Team is on site along with North Andover Emergency Management and Town officials. Many thanks to Stachey’s for providing a delicious lunch to residents and staff.

Stevens Memorial Library open until 5:00pm today

The Stevens Memorial Library located at 345 Main Street is also open today until 5:00PM and is a great spot for anyone without power to charge phones/electronic devices.

“BOX LUNCH”

“Grab & Go '' Lunches are available for residents from 2:00PM- 5:00PM at Stevens Memorial Library located at 345 Main Street. A big thank you to NAPS Food Services Director Ericka Murphy and her staff for preparing 200 hundred sandwiches, chips and apple slices on such short notice.

National Grid

Right now NA has 6,154 households out of 12,874 without power. National Grid has an estimated restoration of 5:00PM tomorrow (9/10/23). Dr. Mealey and his team are out assessing all of our schools and we will keep you updated as more information becomes available.

Lastly, I feel fortunate to live and work in a community where people come together and support each other during difficult times. North Andover is a really special place.

Please stay safe and stay tuned. Respectfully, Dr. Gregg T Gilligan, Superintendent of Schools

ADDITIONAL MESSAGE FROM NAPD

Please see the following message from the North Andover Police Department:

Many North Andover roads continue to be closed as crews work to remove downed trees and wires. Please use extreme caution while driving and walking. Please avoid areas that are blocked off by cones or signs. Areas that may seem possible at glance may have a compromised pole or tree out of view. Once again, Mother Nature has not been kind to this beautiful town! Rest assured, agencies are using all of their resources to get up and running again! Special shout out to the continued efforts of the DPW, NAPD officers, the NAFD fire department and town staff and emergency management for working countless hours through another significant weather event! Thank you for your patience and stay safe!
