Google Gemini (AI)

Google Gemini (AI)

As part of our commitment to preparing students for a changing digital world, our school is utilizing Gemini, an artificial intelligence tool, within our secure Google Workspace for Education environment.

We understand that AI brings questions about privacy and data security. We want to share how we are protecting your student’s information while they explore this new technology.

How is my student's data protected? Unlike the free, public version of Gemini, the version provided by the school includes enterprise-grade privacy protections:

  • No AI Training: Google does not use student or staff conversations to train its AI models. Your student's work and ideas stay within our school’s private domain.

  • No Human Review: Conversations are not reviewed by humans at Google.

  • No Advertising: Student data is never used to build advertising profiles or target students with ads.

  • Data Ownership: Our school district maintains ownership of all data. It is not owned or sold by Google.

Our School Guidelines for Responsible Use: We are teaching students to use AI as a "thought partner" rather than a replacement for critical thinking. Our guidelines include:

  1. Fact-Checking: Students are taught to verify AI-generated information against trusted sources.

  2. Academic Integrity: AI should be used for brainstorming, outlining, and explaining concepts, not for completing assignments in full.

  3. Privacy First: Students are instructed never to share personal details (like addresses or phone numbers) with the AI.

What you can do at home: We encourage you to talk with your student about their experience with Gemini. Ask them how they are using it to help with their studies and remind them to always ensure they are signed in to their school-issued account when doing schoolwork to ensure these privacy protections are active.
